Sofia Mendoza is a science communicator and visual storyteller. With a passion for science and wildlife conservation (particularly aquatic), she holds a Bachelor of Science in Marine and Freshwater Biology from the University of Guelph. Her field experience includes a coral reef restoration project in Koh Rong, Cambodia and shark research in Baja California Sur, Mexico.
Sofia recently completed the Environmental Visual Communication graduate program through Fleming College onsite at the Royal Ontario Museum, where she fine-tuned her skills in photography, videography, and other forms of visual storytelling to advocate for environmental protection. As part of her student placement she filmed, directed, and edited a short documentary about invasive species in the Great Lakes for the ROM in association with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
Her ultimate goal is to become an underwater documentary filmmaker, combining her love for scuba diving and filmmaking to create visually and emotionally engaging content that inspires awe and fascination for our beautiful planet and oceans.
When not in the field, she is based in Burlington, Ontario.
